By using Root & Flag (the website, app and consultation services), you agree to these terms.

1. We're guides, not lawyers

Root & Flag is not a law firm, an immigration consultancy licensed in any country, a tax adviser or a financial adviser. Nothing on the site or in our calls is legal, immigration, tax or financial advice, and using the service doesn't create an attorney–client or other professional relationship. Always get advice from a licensed professional before you act.

2. Information is general and may be out of date

Citizenship, visa, tax, pension and property rules change often, and our figures are simplified estimates. We work to keep information accurate but don't guarantee it is complete, current or right for your situation. Official sources and licensed professionals have the final word.

3. Introductions to professionals

When we introduce you to lawyers, genealogists, agents, translators or other providers, they are independent. You hire and pay them directly, and they are solely responsible for their advice and work. We may receive no compensation, or a disclosed referral fee where the law allows; we'll tell you before you engage anyone.

4. Our fees

The app and the first consultation call are free. Any further work is quoted in advance, based on estimated hours, and only starts when you accept the quote.

5. Your account and content

Keep your sign-in secure and give accurate information. You own what you enter; you let us store and process it to provide the service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the service: no attempts to break security, scrape data at scale, or use it for anything unlawful, including fraud in any immigration or citizenship process.

7. Third-party content

Photos come from Unsplash, passport images and emblems from Wikimedia Commons, and visa data from the open Passport Index dataset (MIT license). National emblems and passport designs belong to their respective governments and are shown for identification only.

8. Liability

To the extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is" and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions you make based on the information shown. Our total liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Changes and termination

We may update these terms; continued use means you accept the changes. You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time.

10. Governing law
